Edit. Edit. Edit.

“Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.” ~Dave Barry

You want to save money and edit your work yourself?  Many writers do.  I personally want you to know that editing is the single largest factor that separates the books published by a large publisher and a self publisher.  It is the “tell”, it is the glaring thing that discredits self-publishing.  So, if you have not combed over your work with a fine tooth comb, then you should because that is the one strongest area that could make or break your success.  Now, I am not saying that it must be grammar perfection at in its highest form but I do mean to suggest that tons of little errors make your work weak.

Namaste,

What exactly …

What exactly do you do Ms. Rosehips?

Well, since you asked… I publish your edited book to paperback or to eBook form.  I put it on Amazon, or Barnes&Noble, or other markets.  I ask one price for each market we publish your work to.  I market you, and like every publisher on the planet, I expect you to also market yourself which is why I tell you how when you have your work published with Alpha Sutra Press.  I also blog about marketing here.

You say you can just do-it-yourself, the publishing of your work?  Well, I am very pleased for you!  I also offer an anthology book where you can buy marketing with the price of a short story or poem and share your bio and URL to that book you published yourself.  After all, there can never be too much marketing.

Namaste,

Olive Rosehips

What to know about eBook publishers

The very important thing you should know about E-Publishing services is that they are not exactly “publishers”.  You’re thinking: uh, what?  Publishing wears different outfits these days, so try to think of e-publishing as working with book makers who distribute to retailers.

The changes to the publishing dynamics can be a very good thing because while e-publishers can bring your book to life and available to the public, e-publishers will not require you to wait on their time lines, approvals, revisions.  Nor will they assign you a large bill for marketing and distribution services which they cannot guarantee outcomes for.

So what DO e-publishers do for you?  The offerings vary but a few of the consistent services offered are these:

  • E-publishers allow you to keep the rights to your book: they don’t own your soul or your book decisions which are pricing, cover, revisions, etc.
  • They provide you with an ISBN number.  Great right?  It is registered, official and search-able.
  • Your edited work is formatted into a book, eBook or other.  You start off with a stack of pages that you filled and then suddenly you have a book.
  • Distribution of your e-published book to a retailer takes place for little or no cost.  Your work is made available for purchase on-line.
  • The bonus of having Alpha Sutra Press doing the self-publishing or e-publishing for you, you don’t need to have much technical expertise.

About A compendium of Talented authors

  • Book Description

    Publication Date: February 23, 2012
The Pen 10 Scribes project aims to reintroduce the world to more quality of life by bringing back the escape of the inside of a good book through the flash fiction style of The Pen 10 Compendium.

This book of short stories delivers the modern solution for those who say they do not have time to read. The deep impact of these stories are sometimes doled out in a mere 100 words, sometimes 10 sentences and other variations which are long on style and yet very short with words.

That is the essence of flash fiction: short stories. While short stories are not new; remember Edgar Allen Poe (The Pit and the Pendulum), Washington Irving (Rip Van Winkle), and even Isaac Asimov (I, Robot), there is a return to the form.

What is special about this project is that all of the authors, though very polished, are not widely published and seeking introduction in order to bring more of their works to book form.

After reading these stories, we encourage (and just short of beg) your response to our facebook page (facebook: The Pen 10 Compendium) as well as the website links these authors have provided inside of this remarkable little ebook.

A brief history of publishing…

See the submissions tab or send questions to: Olive.Rosehips@yahoo.com

In the beginning of book publication history, many famous books got their start when they were published by their authors.  Self-publishing is an early American industry as the person who had the printing press was usually the author, publisher, printer and book shop owner.

From the very beginning of the printing process (the year 1455), book publication was set up to  benefit the publishers pocketbook first and foremost.  Publishing with a larger publisher remains that way today and publishers get paid, and from writers, whether the writer gets paid or not.  Large publishers have enjoyed a long reign where they called the shots and what publishers chiefly did for writers was put their books out into books stores.  One glance around and you will see that the only large book store standing today is Barnes and Noble.  There are also only 6 major publishing houses remaining.  Times, they are a changing.  Writers are getting wise and exercising more control over their work and keeping more of the profits.  No more selling out to a large publisher with their lengthy delays and epic expenses.

That is where Alpha Sutra Press comes onto the scene.  Alpha Sutra Press does “self-publishing” for writers who haven’t a clue how-to and frankly are more interested in getting their work published than learning the process.  Alpha Sutra Press, a small, independent publisher, and can get your finished ebook to Barnes and Noble book sellers just like a large publisher does and in less time.  We can also put your ebook on Amazon and Kindle devices as well as other large book markets.  We literally do the “self-publishing” for you.  We do it without high-jacking your copyright exclusivity,  we assign you an ISBN number, and we even participate in the marketing your book, along side of you, and creatively throughout the internet, on social media, and blogs written around the globe.  Yes, we can also put your work in paper back.
